THE LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER sits in a garden chair and writes. It is late summer, and autumn glimpses calm the warmly and evenly glowing sunlight. He has awakened from his afternoon siesta, drunk a cup of Darjeeling tea and - like a cat - found a spot where he can undisturbedly record his reflections. A few white dharma clouds are here and there in the otherwise tranquil sky.
He is situated on the green cliffs of a beautiful island in the middle of the ocean. Here is his simple house in a pastoral nature where the time dimension is sometimes freed from thoughts of transience. Sometimes a clearing opens in the lighthouse keeper's consciousness that allows a timeless clarity of peace to be reflected into the enigmatically dreamlike and glittering oceanic water light.
In the garden is also his spouse - in poetic moments called Oceanic Water Light - who tends to some flowers she has planted. Her natural soulfulness has a fertile watery character with youthfully original awakening chords. She occasionally calls her lighthouse keeper "Jewel Reflecting Embrace"... this is because he, in a holodynamic way and with a jewel-like reflection, embraces her, whereby radiation of, among other things, intensified reality presence is created, which contributes to living beings who can receive this radiation being promoted in their conscious development towards enlightenment.
The lighthouse keeper's spouse ensures that he is not absorbed into a being beyond the conditions that are his: to maintain the thought of enlightenment. This is symbolized by the lighthouse he has been assigned to take care of. Without his glittering spouse, the lighthouse's function would disappear into darkness. And without the lighthouse keeper, Oceanic Water Light would dissolve into nothingness. She needs the reflecting embrace. He needs the oceanic essence of life, manifested in a fertile-water-light-atmospheric female form.
Our inseparable couple is in union a holodynamic reflection of Buddha Dordche Chang, which includes everything regarding method and wisdom. Their main function is to - through their coexistence - remedy imbalance, ill health, disharmony, experiences of meaninglessness, and lack of insight regarding, among other things, the nature of Reality and the causes of our sufferings.
This is the essential glimpse of the lighthouse keeper's belonging, his dwelling. His task here is to make seekers existentially more aware in a significant way and not least to remind them not to forget taking refuge in 1) the principle of enlightenment and 2) beings who cultivate this path... both outer and inner.
Gods on subtler levels live in oceanic time spaces and do this mostly by being in the pleasurable consuming of the consequences of positive karma. On one occasion, when he was an ocean traveler, the lighthouse keeper sought in meditation his mother who had passed away several years ago, who was staying in a spiritual light realm. He instructed her with the following contemplative words: "Mother, look out through the great window there (she sits in a meditation posture opposite the ocean traveler and has a panoramic window to her right/to the left of the ocean traveler) - there you see the ocean... it just exists... but, unlike the ocean, humans are also capable of being aware of existing."
The lighthouse keeper is thus a custodian of the lighthouse of enlightenment. He is therefore naturally a dharma practitioner, whose symbol is a diamond-stable lighthouse that functions in such a way that it receives oceanic water light, transforms the union energy in an amplifying manner, and radiates, among other things, rainbow-like in all directions, whereby living conditions are promoted, especially in the fields reached by these reflections. The mentioned "amplifying transformation" essentially has a fertile-watery, jewel-reflection-like, and enlightening character. This can, for example, mean that emotion-laden experiences are expanded to naturally generous gestures, and healing is straightened out to a sense of kinship which becomes increasingly clear, so that hereby among other variants of pride, dualization, desire, and ignorance are dispersed. The lighthouse keeper thereby contributes to the Creative Evolution of the Whole towards increasingly enlightened awareness.
The lighthouse keeper mentally resides mostly in a secret sphere, and the basic character of his being is diamond-blue clarity, which encompasses, among other things, amethyst-toned balancings, golden-yellow light and sound vibrations in harmonizing and synergizing dance with, for example, white nectar fragrance, darkness-dispersing ruby light, or aquamarine-emerald breathing, empathetically carried by heartfelt kindness, etc. He transforms, among other things, pride and greed into an omnipresent, essentially similar and naturally expansive energy that enriches life in unexpected ways. In this activity, he has the golden-yellow "jewel source" Buddha Ratnasambhava as a guiding principle. He further transforms desire and passion into developing differentiation of perceptual awareness and into far-developing life and endless light. He is inspired in this by the ruby-red Buddha Amitabha. He transforms dualization and conceptual grasping into heartfelt, mirroring inner awareness. The diamond-blue Buddha Akshobya is the guiding presence here.
The lighthouse keeper also transforms envy and impulsive activity into dynamic action perfection that solely serves the purpose of maintaining conditions that shape protective and enlightening refuge spheres. The emerald-green Buddha Amogasiddhi is the guide here. Furthermore, ignorance and attachments to aesthetic sensory perceptions, subtle pleasure, and formlessness are transformed into Reality Awareness. The fundamentally diamond-white, pure-clear - but also transparent, rainbow-shimmering - Buddha Vairochana is the guiding principle here. All this is integrated in the lighthouse keeper and thus occurs naturally consciously... much like drinking water when thirsty.
The lighthouse keeper seeks to comprehensively transform artificial conditions into harmonic naturalness and generally relates dynamically enlighteningly to combinations of various conditions that cause suffering, confusion, and absence of significant insight. He can use methods where the above principles have been integrated at a more inclusive level of awareness... for instance, Buddha Shakyamuni, the Healing Buddha, Tara in various forms, Guru Padmasambhava, Vadchrasattva, Vadchradhara, Samantabhadra, Hevadchra, and Vadchrayogini can constitute the guiding and inspiring Buddha chords that balance and transform the disturbing vibrations and interferences.
The lighthouse keeper's belonging is mostly in stabilizing spheres, not so much in the actively enlightening anger, which dharma practitioners can also effectively inhabit. The conditions for residing in harmonizing spheres include transforming the disturbances one experiences into conditions that resonate with healing - for example, balancing, compensating, equalizing, harmonizing, clarifying dynamics. The lighthouse keeper is not a fighter who acts out conflicts and disagreements.
He can sometimes discuss a topic in a contemplative, philosophical Manjusri spirit with an equivalent conversation partner, to exploratively intensify the confrontation with the prevailing significant truth. In such a discussion, there are no potential losers and winners, because both parties are actually collaborating towards the same goal: revealing the true nature of Reality... albeit with confrontational and sharply obstacle-dispersing means. These never aim to hurt the other, but to remove unnecessary defenses from both.
If a discussion partner makes a decisive statement that makes the other realize something previously not understood, then this "loser" is actually the winner (of new knowledge). Ordinary competitors, athletes, businessmen, warriors, animals, players, academic prestige seekers, "Asuras" (demigods) in samsara's wheel of existence, and others, do not realize this point because they are generally not seeking insight, authenticity, healing, and enlightenment. They want to avoid loss experiences and seek winning feelings and temporary ego inflation.
When they win, they can momentarily experience that their efforts ultimately led to the rightful (meaning themselves) succeeding, wherefore they should now also be honored for their efforts. That these reward medals are generally of no deeper inner help in precious and meaningful evolution is a reflection not actualized by these pride-seeking and prize-oriented players.
Certainly, the lighthouse keeper does not deny that there are existence levels where only the language and mentality of struggle, competition, or rivalry are understood. Yes, in the business world, one is even forced in some places to maintain a competitive mechanism to counteract power dominance. And certainly, there are worlds where one needs to triumph over so-called "evil" forces through means of struggle. But the lighthouse keeper does not belong to this group, except in emergencies.
The "enemies" in his world are often the maras and manifestations that dislike someone developing beyond spheres where means are lacking to promote long-term liberation from suffering and ignorance. The lighthouse keeper's good friend, the Medicine Buddha, sometimes assists him - occasionally via an emanation - when deeper domains are actualized where the maras' emergence has been recognized as partially one's own collective creations.
The lighthouse keeper must therefore view these defensive manifestations in a significant way and bring these resistant energies into harmony with development towards awakened presence through corrective and transformative dynamics, so that others may also benefit. Certainly, a thunderous attitude can sometimes be the most appropriate.
The Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara reminds the lighthouse keeper that as long as one does not have immediate access to love and compassion for all those in distress and lacks the desire to see living beings permanently happy, one is not in a dynamic state that promotes maturation towards enlightenment. Thus, even the maras should be received as potential fellow travelers, and their defensive weapons against new insights transformed, for example, into flowers and jewels.
The Lighthouse Keeper sometimes cries. He understands the value of being human with favorable living circumstances and cries, among other things, out of gratitude for his favorable conditions and for having met and been taught by many external and internal dharma teachers. He cries with compassion when seeing people suffer, over how few live a dharma-aware life, and out of love when sitting in beautiful nature, allowing himself to be filled with the earth's beauty and richness. He cries with joy when observing his spouse, who is pregnant with natural generosity. She brings him to life and can reveal wonderful amazement and manifold potentialities. Many are the verses he has lovingly written down for her in numerous forms... especially during his lives as an ocean traveler.
Space is made for the lighthouse keeper's life by his having left behind attachments to ordinary life. The external - and the non-secret, non-inner internal - life is of course interesting as holodynamically reflecting aspects in our world, but no longer as something desirable with independent existence. The secretly heartfelt dimensions in the oceanically enigmatic and mutually mirroring Reality center constitute the central dwelling.
The lighthouse keeper's vision of phenomena and beings in this essential dwelling is creatively holodynamically mirroringlike. Few wholes or interrelations are usually described naturally respectful, living, and significant when using a reductive, representational, or static language - which we generally unreflectively do... and which mirrors our grasping, projecting, and fixating mentality.
A fundamental principle is found in all manifestations and in the lighthouse keeper's various perceptions: that the Whole is dynamically reflected with some patterning in every individual and collective formation. One could simply express it that all beings and groupings are potential Buddhas.
The lighthouse keeper thus no longer needs to travel the seas to other countries as he did when he was an ocean traveler. Instead, he studies the interference zones between the character of his consciousness and how reality, beings, and phenomena are presented to him - partially depending on this.
Epistemologically, he takes a dynamic position where he synergistically and multi-dimensionally balancingly combines an instrumentalist and realistic approach united with an awareness of Reality's essentially bright and clarity-empty nature. This naturally means the attitude is adapted to different contexts.
All these calibration variants never lack awareness of mutually dependent reflections in the whole and in the parts, as well as communication in wholes' and dimensions' membrane fields.
For the lighthouse keeper, the most valuable consequences of the holodynamic vision are that one no longer separates oneself from affinity awareness: one is constantly presented with reflective aspects of one's own mentality in others, just as one can recognize others' chords, character, and type of consciousness in oneself.
In his meditations, the lighthouse keeper is often spontaneously presented with one form after another, including both those known in the conventional world and more or less symbolically shaped. The lighthouse keeper rejects none of these, as his oceanically mental world is fundamentally open-ended and embraces both samsara and nirvana. His development consists largely of integrating more and more beings' mentality and living conditions into his consciousness. This is a complicated process, as he naturally cannot simply additively allow living beings' chords to move into his psyche as when one stows more and more things in a warehouse.
The central organizational principles are primarily the tantric Buddhist systems, complemented by the lighthouse keeper's holodynamically creative reflection vision of the universe and its contents. First and foremost, it involves integrating all essential aspects of living beings' conditions in general and all humans on our earth in particular, and cultivating these appropriately at different levels. We may call the lighthouse keeper's superordinate tuning fork "significance awareness".
What fundamentally directs the approach to integrating more and more living beings into the lighthouse keeper's consciousness is, as initially mentioned: maintaining the thought of enlightenment. This means - in the actual operational procedures - adapting approaches in different contexts so that phenomena and beings appearing in the lighthouse keeper's outer, inner, and secret perception fields are received and met in ways that bring them into harmony with enlightenment-oriented living.
The lighthouse keeper's existential conditions have their inspirational source in enigmatic and naturally oceanic spheres. This is his intimate dwelling. Parts of him can, however, sometimes leave the central belonging sphere and thereby assume various roles in the conventional world to branch out aspects of his activity, such as exercising functions as psychotherapist, teacher, parent, fellow human friend, dance partner, gardener, author, economic sponsor, or tourist. These formations are related to variants of Nirmanakaya, the lighthouse keeper and his spouse (in symbolic/archetypal formation) to Sambogakaya, their oceanic reality to Dharmakaya, and superordinate guiding and integrating principles to Significance Awareness.
The Spruce Dweller, the yogin from the forest's hidden glade, is one of the ocean traveler's most intimate friends. The lighthouse keeper, however, is the ocean traveler's guide and protector. This emerges increasingly as The Spruce Dweller is integrated. The Spruce Dweller opens up the secret, heartfelt, hard-to-access solitary, and enigmatic glades. The lighthouse keeper is the master who then opens up to Reality itself.
This (non-apparent or essential) Reality can unexpectedly present itself to the lighthouse keeper for a brief moment as clarity awareness qualified by reflective and essentially similar water light... for example, on a full moon day when all perceived self-existence of the ocean, light, lighthouse, island, house, and of himself and his spouse has dissolved.
The lighthouse keeper protects the ocean traveler in an analogous way as, to simplify somewhat, a captain protects his vessel and crew, a doctor his patients, a king his crown prince, a lawyer his clients, a psychoanalyst his analysands, a parent his children, a shepherd his sheep, a dharma teacher his adepts, and a conductor his orchestra. One can also consider the subject so that the lighthouse keeper is a formation of the ocean traveler's fourth condition. The ocean traveler's conditions are four...
(i) To dedicate one's life to others and
(ii) enlightenment;
The first of the remaining two is:
(iii) (iii) Short, but clear dream images
And the fourth condition consists of:
(iv) Significant manifestations
This fourth condition has also been embodied by, for example, The Spruce Dweller.
The lighthouse keeper can be said to be a fundamental condition for archetypal ocean travelers... for whom the lighthouse keeper represents, we can say, the main lighthouse in the midst of the endless ocean. It can be simply and earthly compared to sailing across the Atlantic and stopping for a while at a protective harbor, let's say the Azores, where one obtains provisions, guidance, rest, and experiences before traveling on to other destinations.
The lighthouse keeper thus guards THE LIGHTHOUSE, not just any of the countless lighthouses. For the ocean traveler, this lighthouse is the lighthouse of enlightenment, the main lighthouse, the lighthouse of lighthouses, the one that superordinately integrates the essence of all lighthouses' functions. Ordinary lighthouses warn of shoals, show the position of specific places, and are helpful in non-oceanic navigation. The lighthouse of enlightenment, however, is the lighthouse of oceans, the one that helps navigate the waters of fundamental existential questions... questions that concern the meaning of our life's journey and existence in general, and enlightenment-oriented development in particular.
Most people lack integrated access to significant lighthouses in their ordinary consciousness, with the exception of their own instinctive survival lighthouse. And certainly, this survival lighthouse is fundamental. But, in generalizing this attitude, one often misses the insight, with the help of the lighthouse of enlightenment, that survival becomes short-lived and of the poorest quality if it is not expanded and shared with other living beings. If everyone lives happily and meaningfully, then individuals and oneself are also benefited. If, however, a few live samsarically rich and restrictive in their bubbles, at the expense of others, one prepares for catastrophic consequences, which are beginning to glimmer here and there on our earth now.
Without holistically conscious insight into karmic processes, the living conditions of complex phenomena, and the nature of consciousness and Reality, we eventually end up in agonizing ignorance darkness. Our egoism should at least in the first round be upgraded to intelligent egoism, which can be summarized as follows: it is much smarter to work for everyone's well-being, not just a few's, in a pasture. Symptoms of such an unawareness of our narrow-mindedness now manifest in several ways on our earth.
A lighthouse's function can easily be tested by generalizing it´s intentional activity. Now, certainly most lighthouses are not oceanic guides, but local help instruments. But many do not know this. There are, for example, many different fundamentalist "lighthouses" that never lead to other areas than those where one eventually runs aground and drowns in samsara's darkness. These are lighthouses that lack wisdom light; for example, a generalizing monotheistic fundamentalism ultimately leads, as is known, to suffering, war, and death. To believe that martyrdom in such contexts would be beneficial and serve a fruitful purpose is like believing that something is gained by cutting away valuable organs from one's body and then imagining that this is a sacrificial act that leads to better conditions for the whole. No sound deity appreciates such a thing, and no sound human sacrifices their own life unless others' lives can thereby be saved.
When guided by a lighthouse that blinks with the message "follow no other lighthouses beside me, so that you do not miss salvation and are reborn in hell", and when this lighthouse thus lacks understanding of wisdom and enlightenment, this brings similar consequences for us earthlings as when, for example, one engages in national arms race. To not even principally seek to include and illuminate global fields today with one's system, but rather limit calibration to some clan or culture, contributes restrictively to our degeneration. Wisdom is lacking here.
The ocean traveler's lighthouse keeper has, in his function as lighthouse keeper, as mentioned, a consort whom he gladly calls, for example, fertility-watery blossoming light. Without her, the lighthouse would go out and the lighthouse keeper would die away. She is the glitter, life, waves, water's gleam, beauty, grace, soulful openness, nectar scent, life essence, the music of the sea and spheres. She gladly calls the lighthouse keeper "Jewel-Reflecting Embrace" and presents him with devoted and appreciative gestures, often in poetic attire. She can easily make the lighthouse keeper regard her presence with deep inner love and natural gratitude. Sometimes tears can well up in the lighthouse keeper before her fertile-nectarous love dynamics. For her, the lighthouse keeper is the one who holodynamically reflects life's dimensions, who embraces her, makes her existentially aware, and loves her in a jewel-like and chosen manner. Naturally, they have each other's qualities and nature more or less integrated within themselves, but consciously choose to somewhat dualize their marital relationship in female-male aspects in human form, thereby among other things exemplarily and enrichingly promoting the development of dance-like creativity and generation of inspiration.
Our consorts' communication can be naturally awake, subtle, multidimensional, spontaneously creative, playfully mischievous, and variously clear. When words are used, they are often filled with meaning and conscious presence. In the time span during a nectar meal, one of them might, associatively and developmentally, as well as unprepared and easily, be able to extensively develop the meaning and usefulness of a word. They interact as needed in a creatively dance-like spirit with senses, thoughts, dream images, symbols, similes, feelings, romantic chords, and mostly also more or less non-conceptually... including telepathically, precognitively, intuitively, clairaudiently, and in various synchronous ways... which is made possible by the more or less current presence of holodynamic mirroring consciousness. The various experiences arising in their mutual communication naturally have a varying and deeply blissful fundamental tone. They therefore find it fruitful to also exemplarily let their co-dance in the form of conventional coexistence be experienced by others.
Should one die, the other soon dies as well. They appreciate each other's differences as much as their similarities and each other's manifestations of integrity consciousness as much as their mutual interdependence. When they recognize each other's wholes so that they experience having integrated the other's character and nature with well-balanced equilibrium, they can smile at each other in their own mutually intimate ways and thereby cause vibration shifts in their communication fields, which are then danced together in some medium to new unions. They could devote themselves to pleasant interaction over longer time spans. They rarely experience repetitions and can, for example, give each other infinitely different designations, which reflect the moment's experiences and attitudes. They can also take on different roles and relate to each other in different ways. It is natural and spontaneous for them that restrictive tendencies are not cultivated... and, as mentioned, security, confirmation, and control needs are not part of their coexistence. They naturally often need pauses to integrate new experiences... and since this happens constantly, they have contemplative space readily available. In this condition, no notable physical gestures are needed to communicate. Both their approaches in life are gentle and free from striving. It can be enough for a new scent or nectar-rich taste nuance to be actualized, so that a new dance-like communication can be freely and unpredictably initiated in a medium where wonderfully and holodynamically mirroring fractal blossomings take place (if we borrow the term 'fractal' from mathematical geometry and use it playfully and developmentally). They could devote themselves to interestedly smelling variations in each other's sweat or breath, arising as a result of what nutrition has been ingested and/or what attitude and level of consciousness prevails... and do this over a period that conventionally could correspond to several human lives, but which they themselves can experience in a similar way to how we experience a vacation week.
The couple's communicative joys can also be samsaric and viewed instrumentally. These do not constitute the goal or fruits, but rather co-condition prerequisites for the development of dharma consciousness. If we compare it to natural spices, then these cannot replace basic nutrition, but can contribute promotively to digestion and, among other things, to transformations and wisdom-spiritual development... yes, without the samsaric conditions in combination with a consciously appropriate attitude, no significant development could occur in us humans. To, for example, view ephemeral romantic life spices with significance awareness, constitutes aspects of a fruitful dynamic attitude. It is one of the lighthouse keeper's functions, to be helpful in significant recognitions of samsaric phenomena and remind travelers that Buddha enlightenment constitutes our evolution's excellent destination attitude. Life in such a development is not just about going to school, working, producing children, building houses, having a holiday-like retired life and then dying... and not even just about forgivingly letting oneself be taken into a great god's embrace and then remaining happy forever... which in itself can be a significant gesture for a moment towards, for example, insecure elderly and children. Subsequently, even gods and generous mothers need help in the Whole's creatively multiversal evolution towards Buddha enlightenment... and gods, whose conditions have not yet clarified into ignorance-liberated Reality awareness, need assistance in handling the so-called heavenly maras.
In summary, we can also formulate the essential here as: the deeper meaning of our lives can be that we seek to cultivate a holodynamically mirroring nirvana consciousness with which we can remain in samsara until all living beings also receive such conditions. When we are all there, we can presumably seek to develop ourselves further into different nirvana levels. We will hopefully return to this subject later.
